Perhaps the most celebrated American opera composer of his generation, Jake Heggie's great rise to prominence began with one enormous success, the premiere of his devastating interpretation of Sister Helen Prejean's memoir, Dead Man Walking. Since its premiere in 2000, the piece has gone on to enjoy a unique interest internationally and continues to be the most performed new opera of the 21st century, certainly due to its realistic discussion of an always timely American theme, capital punishment, and what it means to truly seek redemption for our misdeeds. Conducted by Michael Christie and directed by Joel Ivany, the cast will include Catherine Martin as Sister Helen, Karen Slack as Sister Rose, Emily Pulley as Mrs. Patrick de Rocher, and Seth Carico as Joseph de Rocher.
